President Barrow Hands Over Rural Water Supply Projects To Communities

President Adama Barrow, in line with his government’s commitment to provide safe and clean drinking water to Gambians, last Wednesday handed over a Rural Water Supply project to 62 communities at a ceremony held in Faraba Sutu, Kombo East. The project called ‘Rural Water Supply (Phase IV)’ was jointly implemented by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Department of Water Resources under the Ministry of Fisheries, Water Resources of The Gambia.

Speaking at the occasion, the Minister of Fisheries, and Water Resources, Honourable Musa Drammeh said the Department of Water Resources under his Ministry is working tirelessly to provide safe and quality drinking water to rural communities as to the promises made to them by President Barrow in the Recovery-Focused National Development Plan (RF-NDP 2023-2027).

In his official handing-over speech, His Excellency President Adama Barrow reiterated his government’s commitment to the welfare of all citizens. He said he has made a promise that every citizen no matter where they live will access clean drinking water and electricity.

The president however emphasized the importance of water in development.

The community of Faraba Sutu expressed their love for President Barrow, not only for the provision of water but according to them, he is the first President in The Gambia to visit Faraba Sutu.

The occasion was graced by government officials, representatives of JICA, and a cross-section of local communities. Buba Sanyang, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Fisheries, and Water Resources Chaired the ceremony.
