Police have confirmed detaining a woman who falsely claimed she was robbed of five hundred thousand Dalasis (D500,000).
According to police reports, the woman was arrested and held at Bundung Police Station on Saturday, February 17, for orchestrating a robbery hoax and providing misleading information to law enforcement. Initially, she reported to the police that she had fallen victim to a robbery, claiming a loss of D500,000. However, upon preliminary investigation, it was uncovered that her motive was to deceive authorities in order to evade payment to her business partner.
“The police have on Saturday, February 17, arrested and detained a woman at Bundung Police Station for staging a robbery, falsely claiming to have been robbed of D500,000, thereby providing false information and misleading the police. She reported to the police that she had been robbed of 500,000 dalasis. However, during the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that she intended to deceive the police to avoid paying the money to her business partner,” the police said.
Further inquiry by law enforcement uncovered that the woman staged the robbery to conceal her misappropriation of funds belonging to her employer.
“She confessed to staging the robbery herself with no third-party involvement. She has been detained while investigations continue,” the police concluded.
