Foni Berefet NAM Accuses UDP Of Deceiving APRC Members, Discouraging Alliance

By Ramatoulie Jawo

Honourable Amie Colley, the representative of Foni Berefet Constituency in the National Assembly, has accused the United Democratic Party (UDP) of deceiving members of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) who oppose forming an alliance.

“You, the ‘No To Alliance’ individuals, the UDP used to approach you, claiming that during Yahya Jammeh’s tenure, he did this and that. Let me clarify that they (UDP) are the primary adversaries of Jammeh. They do not desire Yahya Jammeh’s peace. They are merely exploiting you to instigate conflict within the Party, as it was during our division that UDP gained power in this country,” Hon. Colley conveyed to the people.

She alleged that certain UDP members are attempting to mislead APRC members for the benefit of the UDP.

She emphasized that when APRC was united, the UDP could not gain any power in the country.

“At the time we were united as one family, UDP couldn’t seize power in the country. Our division has empowered them (UDP), and they are manipulating our people with sweet words to achieve their objectives. I urge you to come together and be united so that we can elevate APRC to its desired heights. This way, when Yahya Jammeh returns, we can restore his party to him,” she stated.

“I am addressing my fellow ‘No To Alliance’ members. Let’s exercise patience and reunite as we were in 2016, so we can chart a course forward for the party. Today, if ‘No to Alliance’ stands alone, and ‘Yes to Alliance’ stands alone, we will not accomplish anything,” she appealed.

She also encouraged her supporters to align with President Barrow, stating that without joining President Adama Barrow, their efforts to bring back Former President Yahya Jammeh would be in vain.

“People are trying to mislead us. If we don’t support the President, we cannot bring back Yahya Jammeh. I understand the reason why Fa Bakary joined the NPP – it is to bring back Yahya Jammeh to reside here with his family and have freedom in The Gambia,” she added.

Hon. Colley further urged the ‘No To Alliance’ youth to be patient and work for the party, asserting that APRC is a party that will never bow down.

“The achievements of APRC in The Gambia are unparalleled by any other party here. Therefore, let us take pride in being APRC party militants,” she declared.

Hon. Colley alleged that there are individuals who do not want APRC to unite due to their selfish interests.

“Since our division, tell me, what has APRC achieved? We haven’t made progress. We are all stagnant, and that is not why we formed the party,” Hon. Colley questioned.
