Prisoners Should Be Given Second Chance-Mile LlInmate

By Mustapha Jarju

A Mile II inmate Michael Ifunanya has said prisoners should be given a second shot at life.

“I am pleading with President Adama Barrow, who said, he believes in a second chance for people to prove themselves and the skills they’ve learned,” Ifunanyastated as he spoke on behalf of inmates at a recent graduation ceremony for 71 prisoners who completed a skills training program for prisoners.

According to him, he spent more than a decade behind bars with prisoners, he said, have the potential that could help in the development of the country.

He asserted that most of the prisoners pardoned by the President are contributing to the nation’s development.

Ifunanya also encouraged President Barrow to continue extending his prerogative of mercy to prisoners.

“There are a lot of treasures in prison who, if injected into the society, will turn out to be a powerhouse of development,” he stated.

Mr. Ifunanya also expressed “their sincere apologies”to the people they hurt and caused pain.

“The hurt and pain that some of them are going through is irreparable and unforgettable. We just want to appeal to them to forgive,” he remorsefully said.
