President Adama Barrow stated that his developmental accomplishments in eight years as president have overweight his predecessors’ achievements of 52 years in the presidency, adding that if they had done enough, by now all infrastructure developments would have been finished.
He said on the side of road infrastructural development done by his predecessors in 52 years was only 800km, while he had already developed over 1000km of roads across the country within eight years.
‘’On the electricity, the meters they [Jawara and Jammeh]have issued in 52 years stood at 195,000. In my eight years, my government had already issued over 200, 000 electric meters,’’ the President said at a meeting in Sinchu Alagie village, Old Yundum constituency on Tuesday.
He said that his predecessors have failed to develop Banjul, resulting in the city accumulating mosquitoes, but added thathis regime has succeeded in reviving the capital to a modern outlook.
“In 52 years, Banjul was in a distress. Roads were damaged. Mosquitoes were breeding everywhere. The Alkalolu, chiefs, and presidents of mosquitoes were all residents of Banjul simply because my predecessors were not able to develop Banjul. Take a look at Banjul today; we have completely changed its outlook by developing and constructing all the roads. We are now focusing on the area behind the market and that construction is already underway. It takes a serious person to develop a country, but not to be president and only wearing suits with ties and bragging. Such doesn’t move a country anywhere,’’ H.E. President Adama Barrow stated.
He informed the community of Old Yundum that his government had already secured a contract to construct the road leading to the Coastal Road flyover, adding that it is going to stretch into Busumbala Tawto.
